"Email is so yesterday." the neophyte retorted. "It will be dead within 5 years." (Just like faxes? hmmm?) "Social networking is the way of the future!"
"Well, that may be, but can't you send email within Facebook?"
"Yes, but..."
"And can't you send and post notes within FB?"
"Yes, but..."
"And aren't all your posts and notes saved within FB, just like email?"
"Oh..."
Most companies don't allow FB because they don't trust their employees to work and not chat, network and play games. So as far as industry is concerned, email will be around for a little while longer
ReplyDeleteJust as print is dead! I read a report indicating that more people are actually buying print versions of books in addition to buying e-books. CDs are still around despite MP3 players. Email will stay around for some time longer, because if snail mail can still tenaciously cling on, so can email!
ReplyDeleteBring back 8 track too!
ReplyDeleteWell - I haven't had to replace the batteries in my hard cover books in a long time! (Android tablet was dead last night though....)
ReplyDeleteThe "neophyte" probably never used email, and probably never had a landline or dial up internet. They probably meant dead just like landlines, dialup internet, CDs, and snail mail - still around but not like they used to be. On the other hand, there will always be people who can't grasp the newer technologies and keep up. The people under 30 I know might be a little more technical savvy than average but they all have a cell phone and not a landline, they listen to FLAC files instaed of CD's, and they don't use email they use SMS and facebook.
