Ah yes! Wintertime! That joyful time of the year when so many here in Western New York after having enjoyed the season for nearly 5 looonnnggg months, in desperation, leave the state for sunnier climes.
I met a lady today who had just returned from a trip to Florida, a two week trip. Those of us not so sanguine or desperate, had endured the late Winter/early Spring rain/sleet/ice/snow onslaught, and have been breathing a sigh of relief (and waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak, this is Western New York after all and Spring usually arrives around Independence Day).
"So - how was your trip?"
"It was nice."
"Well, what was the highlight?"
"DisneyWorld was nice, and then there was the extended shopping trip to the mall."
"Huh?" (I was expecting the warm sand, sunny beach, maybe even a stray Pina Colada, but the MALL?)
"Yeah, my girlfriend was looking for a birthday present and we went to about 50 stores, but she didn't buy anything she was just looking so then we turned around and went back to each of the stores and she bought the items she had seen in each store that went together so it would make the perfect gift." (A deep breath followed.)
"Huh?" (I'm a guy so I'm lost at the mall. Geesh!)
"Yeah she bought ...." (Who knew one could say so much on one breath of air!)
"PGS - perfect gift syndrome."
"Huh?" my friend says.
"My point exactly."
And now a shameless plug for an uncommon website - Uncommon Goods
