The real heros

Leigh and I were having breakfast this morning and the news reporter was discussing the latest Brian Williams news. She asked the question - why do people do this?

Well ... it's all about the ratings, the image, the political aspirations ... Mr. Williams overstated his role and his actions, and he is not the first to do this.

Social media sources have posts advocating that only a war hero should serve as President. This is never mentioned in the Constitution. Perhaps our Founding Fathers would question this particular philosophy.

Other sources advocate that only lawyers should serve in legislative bodies as they are the only ones skilled enough to understand the law - not in the Constitution either.

Mr. Williams already had the public eye - why the need to inflate his role, his actions? Leigh and I are fortunate to have remembrance of some very special men who served in a World War. Ordinary men who left home and family to serve in a foreign land to defeat an extreme evil. These same ordinary men took extraordinary action in this foreign land and then returned home to resume their ordinary lives, secure in their personal knowledge that they were part of a very special time. And - they continued to serve when they could, make a difference when they could, all without fanfare, accolades or the public eye.

My father - Charles C. Kinsey, my father-in-law - Donald A. Ashbery, Uncle Thomas K. Ashbery and my Uncle James Ashbery all now rest in peace. Ask anyone who may remember them what kind of men they were - the answer will be the same - regular guys, honest to a fault, men of their word.

Mr. Williams - be a man.
