Here's brief recap of Operating systems from Wikipedia - OS History Timeline.
Isn't it amazing? There were a variety of operating systems from a variety of manufacturers which have led to the prominent operating system platforms - Windows, Apple IOS, Chrome and Android, and Linux. (Yes - there are multiple variants of Linux - Ubuntu, Debian, SuSe, RedHat, etc.) This is such a testimony to the innovation and creativity of the for the most part unrecognized programmers (though Linus Torvalds had it right to name the operating system after himself. Hmmmm - now how would Microsoft William sound? Nah! Windows it is.)
So rather than bemoaning the end of support for Windows XP which was introduced in 2001, let's celebrate XP's lucky year 13!
I can commiserate with the other techies out there who also know that we haven't really stretched the limits of any of the previous operating systems to their final fronter.
What is exciting are the possibilities each new operating system and the extension of computational power for finally solving some of mankinds' greatest problems.
Bon Voyage XP! Bon chance! Au revoir! Auf wiedersehen! It's been a good run.
Now - where's my watercolors and brushes!
